Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends — Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo — have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape — with the help of some prodigious penguins — to explore the world.

ABOUT OUR WORKSHOPS

This youth production is designed specifically to provide a nurturing, constructive and safe environment for young performers. The workshop will focus on honing performance skills, boosting confidence and having FUN! It will be great way for participants to work with professional theatre makers and most importantly give them a chance to get up on stage and perform!!

The workshop registration fee covers the costs of: rights, royalties, insurances, technical and creative staff, set and props and venue hire. Once the cast has been finalised you may have an additional costume hire fee (as stated on registration form).

WORKSHOP INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in BGPA’s production of Madagascar Jr. This is a youth production for 6-13 yr olds. All participants must be at least 6 years old by the date of performance.

TRY OUT DAY FOR SPEAKING/FEATURED ROLES:

Character/featured role auditions are NOT compulsory and are for any participant who would like to be considered for a speaking or featured role, plus a great way to get to know the creative team!!

Our in-person try outs will be held on SUNDAY 7TH OF JUNE at our Bowen Hills Studio.

If you wish to be considered for a lead/featured role however cannot make it to our audition day… that's okay! Email us directly on info@bgperformingarts.com and we can offer an online video submission!

Audition Day Details

When: Sunday 7th of June 2026

Where: 12 Jamieson Street, Bowen Hills QLD 4006

Time:
9:00am-12:00pm - students can sign into the building from 8:45pm

What: Attendees will participate in a vocal, acting and dance session for our creative team to assess where each performer will best fit within the show.

What to bring: Appropriate shoes, sweat towel, sufficient water and snacks and anything else you may need! (We will provide all paper materials)

What to wear: Please wear clothing that you can easily move in (you will be dancing) and enclosed shoes. Jazz shoes are recommended but not necessary.

What to prepare: Dance components will be taught on the day.

For the most positive audition experience, students are encouraged to have their songs and monologues learnt off by heart so they can perform with confidence. Materials can be found via the Dropbox link provided. (You can bring a copy with you if needed!)
